Yate Town 2-1 Bedford

Postby Yatesman on Sat Oct 17, 2009 8:21 pm

Arguably Yate's best performance of the season.

This was a cracking game of football from the first minute to the 94th minute.

As my mate, who witnessed last season's miserable campaign commented, if Yate played like this every week we'd have 500+coming through the gates. This was the best game of football since our 4-0 demolition of a weakened and demorilised Merthyr side last year......The difference being that this was a competent and experienced Bedford side who came here and fancied their chances.

The performance from our no 7, Jacob Cox, ( I think his name was ) from the reserves was outstanding and he was easily my man of the match. If that was his 1st team debut then that surely has to go down as the best ever 1st try out for 1st eleven in Yate Town history. So much for those who think the gulf from the reserves to the 1sts is too great!!! The goal he scored was possibly the goal of the season so far and a lesson in how to create a yard of space and then capitalise on the opportunity you've created for yourself. The shot was struck so hard and so accurately just inside the far post that no keeper alive could've prevented that one crossing the line.......it was that good!

Adam Growcott in goal also gave a commanding and very competent performance. That has to make Lee's position very tenuous at the moment.

I think what was so good was the quality of passing ,movement and delivery, if not always the finishing and this was perfectly demonstrated in the first goal which came at the end of a move that originated in our own box and involved up to 10 passes, crossed the field from right to left then from left to right and involved a great ball into the box from , I think, our no 7 and resulted in a great, if flukey, back headed goal from Joe White....which proves that if you get something on target then you have a chance! The positivity was a feature throughout the game and our no7 was at the heart of so much that was good.

On the other flank Zane gave an imperious performance with one quality ball following another. I reckon he put in 12 or 14 top quality deliveries, as well as turning their excellent no2 inside out a couple of times.

Everyone in a White Shirt worked their socks off and even though we were holding on a bit at the end, we got the result our performance deserved.

Really looking forward to the draw on Monday to see who we get in the next round :D

I agree with every word of your report Yatesman and I would also like to mention Jason Burt who looked at home and comfortable at right back. When you consider their no11 had played 3rd division football in Spain he was kept so quiet he was eventually subbed.
The whole defence looked much more confident and knew where they were with Adam Growcott who dominated his area.
I also thought Mark Reynolds looked sharper than I've seen for a while.
Agree with comments about Jacob Cox, are there any more like that in the reserves?
Well done Yate, let's see some more performances like that!

Just my luck to miss this one,due to family commitments.Given the absence of 2 key players,Duggan and Warren, the team must take great credit for this result and showed great resolve to bounce back after defeats in their last two league games.

Jake Cox has been outstanding for the reserves, and my only concern was his physique, but it seems i need'nt have worried!! I thought Aston Newman might have got an opportunity in the absence of Warren, but it sounds like using Jason Burt was a good decision by Moggy.

Here's hoping for a home draw in the next round, with a big crowd and some much needed prize money.
