Poking ones eyes out with a rusty nail is probably more fun than being a Yate Town supporter at the present time?

It's all to do with the feel-good factor at MUFC at the moment among the supporters - and I don't include the wind-up clowns like Count Pollen who come on there just to stir things up.

Phil Bater's already made 3 signings, including enticing back a player (Rob Scott) who left the club last mid-season because he wasn't enjoying things any more (neither were we fans!!) and the friendlies v D & R & Stoke have clearly evolved through Phil's Rovers connections.

None of us are getting carried away though, none of us will expect instant success because that won't happen. I'll be happy with mid table (ie a season of non-struggle for once), but right now, we & the Bluebells clearly need to know what league we're both going to be in next season!

I for one don't want to go in the Midland (especially if Sudbury, Arlesey & Soham get their wish and pull out of that league, and my fear is that we're both on the M5 corridor, so we could get pulled that way......) and would much prefer the South West division giving us a few local derbies at least.

Wherever we go, though, you'll surely be there with us - or vice-versa if you like!

The eX Factor

Postby Yatesman on Sun May 24, 2009 10:51 am

At least your club have left you with 'the feelgood factor' wheareas at Yate all we've been left with is the 'eX-Factor'............everywhere I go around Yate and Sodbury I bump into eX-Players , eX- Managers and eX-Supporters when all most people seem to want is an eX-Chairman.

The Mangos club forum now seems an inspired idea and the positivity from Cossham St is tangible to all outside observers, which can only have a beneficial knock-on effect, although I understand that Bater made some quite specific and potentially costly demands which the club have had to commit to, such as relaying the pitch etc. However that's a good thing because if you know your goals then you have something to aim towards and to rally around, even if the goals are tough.

Still, as Jacko ( or Wacko as some others on here affectionately like to call him), said to me recently when I bumped into him in the Oak.........

and I quote...." It'll be Alright on The Night ".

And that's good enough for me !??!?!!?

From what I understand the cost of improving the playing surface at Cossham Street (which was dreadful) was covered by a fund raising race night held in early April, so that cost is covered.

There is a definite 'feel good factor' about the place now, the appointment of Bater has lifted the club and his ideas for the club and its restructuring and development can only be a positive.

Like Dave, I'm not predicting a title challenge next season, I'd be happy with a team that is competitive, wins more matches than it loses and entertains.
